Rooftop Barbecue at the Markhams’

Rooftop Barbecue at the Markhams’

Last weekend, of course after quite a heavy get-together-with friends and booze night, we were invited for a rooftop barbecue at a friend’s house. They just moved into a cozy 4 storeys apartment in Yongjia Lu + a lovely rooftop where we can sit around watching the sun slowly sinking into the city outline leaving firey burst in the sky. A spectacular view by itself. The view was accompanied by flow of beautiful south african sauvignon blanc, plates of steaming hot new zealand lamb barbecue off the grill and great circle of friends while some of us still trying to kick off last night’s hangover.

It was, however, a spectacular evening. Thanks to David & Mia!

Since Mia’s family comes from the south, her mom’s cooking is mostly spicy. I love the dressing for the cucumber salad and the rocket leaf salad.

Here’s the recipe:

CUCUMBER SALAD

* 2 cucumbers peeled and seeded
* 2 tsp salt
* 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
* 1 clove crushed garlic
* 1 red chili pepper – finely chopped
* 2 tbs wine vine
* 1 tsp sesame oil
* 2 tsp soy sauce
* 2 tsp sugar

Directions:

1.) Cut cucumber into desired size, sprinkle with salt
2.) Leave 30 mnts, rinse and pat dry
3.) Mix together remaining ingredients
4.) Pour over the chopped cucumber.
5.) Cover and chill for 30 mnts before serving
